The employment landscape within the UK roofing industry remains relatively unchanged from 20024-25, with most firms reporting little differences in ease of employment or headcount.
However, there are very definitive trends in the area of skill shortages that must be addressed going forward, for when budgets open up and labour demand grows.

The percentage of UK roofing contractors recording an easier recruitment climate in 2025 vs 2024 was slightly less, by comparison. So, it would seem it’s harder to find UK roofing talent in 2025, year on year.
This perhaps shows that as economic tensions rise, training and development, particularly in the roofing sector, suffers from budgetary constraints.

Of the UK roofing contractor firms that recorded a more difficult recruitment climate in 2025 vs 2024, 50% of the firms complained of there being a shortage of roof tiling talent. This makes roof tiling the most sought-after skill amongst roofing contractors in 2025.
Up there in the top 5 most desired hires for UK roofing firms in 2025 (along with tilers) were – in order of importance:
- Tilers
- Slaters
- Built-up felt roofers
- General labourers
- Lead workers
